Looking forward to sharing stories with my fellow energy industry gear heads! My current project is a 1980 Honda CB750F. Here’s a photo of its current state. It will be on the road in 2023.

    Wow, nice work!
I assume the “RG” is for your name, but the “K”? Also, is that the 103 engine?

Back in February of 2002, I was told, very confidentially, that KCI was being sold to Universal Compression. At that time, I was running KCI’s Field Operations and Maintenance Group with almost 400,000 Bhp operating across the Western US. I could not say anything to anyone, as we were being purchased by a publicly held company, but it appeared that I would lose my job in the process, as Universal already had a very large Operations Group.

In June, when the deal was finally signed, I met with the president of Universal, and he told me that he didn’t know if I would have a job or not, but he would continue my salary. He suggested that I, “Go home, take a few weeks off, I could keep my company car for now, and they would let me know”. That was the beginning of the summer of 2002. In July, I was still getting paid my full salary, but still sitting at home going nuts.

I decided that a Harley was cheaper than a psychiatrist, and a lot more fun, so I bought a beautiful maroon and black Road King. It was a great bike, and it served its purpose! In September I went back to work with Universal working as the GM of their Parts and Service Group. I never missed a paycheck, but it was a really weird time for me. Meanwhile, we had bought Donna her first bike, a Sportster, I had found several other people at Universal that rode, and I enjoyed getting out with them.

Fast forward a year to the fall of 2003. While at a Harley shop in SW Houston with my wife Donna, I saw one of Harley’s CVO (Custom Vehicle Operations) bikes in their showroom. CVO bikes are produced in very limited numbers. They have special paint jobs, larger engines, considerably more optional equipment, and an exponentially higher price tag! This one was Cobalt Blue on Black. It was the prettiest bike I had ever seen, but it was also the only one in Houston and was already sold, for a crazy amount of money, some 50% more than I paid for my Road King.

A few weeks later, I had to take my Road King in for the annual inspection. I got the inspection renewed and rode home, thinking nothing more of it. As it turns out, unbeknownst to me, during the inspection the dealer had also worked up the trade-in value of the Road King.

Again, unbeknownst to me, Donna, and the dealer – by this time we had bought a couple of bikes for her as she grew into her Harley Soft Tail, establishing a pretty good relationship – had found another CVO Road Glide in Cobalt Blue / Black. To this day, I don’t know where or how they found it, but they did, and it was delivered by Santa himself on Christmas morning of 2003!

On that morning around 9:00, the front doorbell rang, and Donna went running for the door. This was very peculiar behavior, as she usually refused to go to the door, much less open it. It was Santa, asking for me, with my new bike in the back of the dealership’s pick-up.

It was a complete shock; I had no idea. On the inside of the faring was a sterling silver plaque that read: “Enjoy the Ride! Love Donna”.

I did enjoy it for many years! The bike is now gone to someone with younger knees and more free time, but I keep the “Enjoy the Ride” plaque on my computer monitor just for the memory!

I love this story. The picture of Santa on the bike, in the back of the truck, is the cherry on top!

I bought this 2012 Harley Ultra Classic Limited on December 1 2012. It had been wrecked and totaled in Michgan and I had bought it from a motorcycle salvage reseller in Madisonville, TN. I had planned on rebuilding it, but I didn’t have a heated garage. My wife Beverly recommended I bring it inside to rebuild, since it was so cold outside. I bought some new and used parts on ebay for bargains and purchased some new parts at Harley dealers. I finished in April 2013, just in time for riding season. Picture taken on the Dragon.

Mac, You did an amazing job rebuilding the Harley. It is a beautiful Ride.

This photo is of my to be Mom and Dad, on the right, and his brother and wife on their way from Omaha to LA in the 40’s. You had to be a gear head to make that trip in a Model A. Thirteen flat tire repairs and one rod bearing fabricated from a leather belt before the trip was over. Its in my blood. Note the ladder attached to the side of the car.

    Really nice bike

My wife Cecilia and I enjoy boating and being on the water. Here’s our 2016 Sea Hunt 235 center console. We boat on the lake here in Knoxville and generally take the boat with us on vacations. The photo is from Tampa, FL.

That is a beautiful boat Kent. I know you and Cecilia enjoy the Ride.
